Wealth advisors & financial planners & their clients are currently facing some significant challenges: Are the rules of the game changing? Are traditional ideas of what constitutes financial well-being and rational economic behavior becoming obsolete with the impact of new technologies and the emergence of Millennials as both clients and advisors? What does that imply for our relationships with our clients? Is this relationship changing in ways that advisors do not understand and do not know how to address?

Values lie behind all the major lifestyle choices and decisions we make including how we choose to invest our wealth as well as philanthropic decisions. People often do not make wise investment or philanthropic choices around what they believe are their values since our personal values are often based on unquestioned or “hand-me-down” unconscious beliefs or assumptions about life and money from our family of origin, or from values we have taken on from peers or organizations of which we have been a part. In any case, if you make investment choices based on someone else’s values, you may feel uncertain or insecure, as you’re out of synch with what’s fundamentally meaningful to you.

This presentation will explore these idea and related challenges through a robust theoretical model of human values as well as contemporary key findings from the field of Behavioral Finance & Neuro-economics.
